Use Rifqa anonymously
You don't have to give us your email or your real name, or prove who you are, to use Rifqa. Here's how anonymous accounts work, and what they mean for you.

Sign up without an email
Pick a private username
4 to 24 letters or numbers, and not your real name. It's only for signing in: other members never see it, and we keep it only as a one-way code, so even our own database doesn't reveal it.
Set a password
Instead of a code sent to your email, your phone spends a few seconds on a small puzzle that keeps automated sign-ups out.
Save your recovery codes
You get ten codes, shown once. Without an email, they're the only way back in if you forget your password or lose your phone. You type one back so we know you saved them.
Make your profile
Use any name you like on your profile. Nobody at Rifqa needs your real one.
Living without an email
New phone, new browser
Signing in somewhere new needs one of your recovery codes, or a passkey if you've added one. A password alone is never enough.
Security alerts in the app
Notices about your account, like a new sign-in, arrive as notifications instead of emails.
Codes that renew
When you use your last recovery code, you get a new set straight away, so you're never left without one.
An email later, if you want
You can add an email at any time from Security, with one of your recovery codes. Your username stays.
Skip the selfie check, if you prefer
The live selfie check is optional. Without it, you're in the unverified section:
- You meet only other members who haven't verified, and they meet only each other: the two sections never see each other.
- Everyone there is labelled "unverified", so you always know nobody there has proven who they are.
- Some things are limited there: lower daily limits, links in messages wait for a moderator, and safety check-ins and chaperone invitations need the verified section.
- You can take the selfie check whenever you like, and move to the verified section. Your matches and conversations carry on.
Private while you use it
Hidden from people you know
People who have your number saved, or whose numbers you choose (in Chrome on Android), won't see you, nor you them. Numbers are turned into codes on your phone before anything is sent.
A different name in every room
In chat rooms you're known only by the nickname you choose there: no profile, no photo, and nothing that links it to your other rooms or your profile.
Seen only when you want
Blur your photos until you match, go incognito so only people you like can see you, or pause your profile at any time.
Discreet on your phone
Add it to your home screen as “Notes”, with a notes icon, lock it with your face or fingerprint, and it blurs whenever you switch away. Notifications never show names or messages.
No exact location
Other people only see a distance, never where you are. Your location is rounded to an area about 2 km across.
What anonymous doesn't change
Anonymous means private, not unaccountable:
- Rifqa is for people 18 and over. Anyone we have reason to think is younger is kept out until a person on our team has checked.
- Messages are still checked for harassment, scams and anything illegal, and a moderator may read one that's held for review.
- Blocking, reporting and bans work the same for everyone.
- Nobody, not even our team, can get you back into an account without an email if you lose both your password and your recovery codes. Keep them somewhere safe, like a password manager.
